Our students can receive both the CEU’s and certifications, and in addition, can also earn college credits towards a degree. Rope

Rope Rescue OperationsFirefighters working together to haul ropes.

Prerequisites: Firefighter I&II 

This course covers several technical aspects involved in rope rescue; with the use of traditional classroom and practical exercises. The subjects covered include: Rescuer roles and responsibilities, different elements and purposes of rescue haul systems, belaying systems, changes of direction, ascending climbing systems, stokes basket operations, patient pick-offs, and tether systems. Instructional knowledge on how to properly construct and utilize mechanical advantage systems, belay systems, high point anchor systems, and haul systems conversion will be included.

This is a State of Florida FLUSAR approved course. Students Completing the course meet the basic requirements to go on to advanced technical rescue courses. This course is designed to meet or exceed the applicable sections of NFPA 1670, Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents.

Prerequisites: Rope Rescue Ops

 This course provides you with the skills necessary to conduct operations at technical rescue incidents safely and effectively based on hazard analysis, risk assessment, training level of personnel, and availability of internal and external resources.

  This course is designed to meet or exceed the applicable sections of NFPA 1670, Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents.

Trench

Prerequisites: Rope Rescue Ops

This course is the basis for conducting safe and systematic rescues in trench situations. It addresses the job performance requirements and the requisite knowledge and skills. This course covers several technical aspects involved in trench rescue; with the use of traditional classroom and practical exercises.

The subjects covered include: This course meets NFPA 1670’s requirements.  Students will be provided with the understanding of OSHA CFR—1926 Subpart P, standard, and its role in Trench Rescue. 

They will also be exposed to the operations level of Trench Rescue and all involved; ex. determining the need for Trench Rescue Operations, risk-benefit analysis, hazards associated with trenches, determining soil type, proper sheeting & shoring techniques, patient package and removal techniques. 

Students at this level can work in a nonintersecting trench up to 8 feet in depth. 

This course is designed to meet or exceed the applicable sections of NFPA 1670, Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents.

Prerequisites: Rope Rescue Ops, Trench Ops

This course meets NFPA 1670’s requirements.  It is a continuation to the Operations Level Course and exposes students to more complex trenches.  Students will be provided with the understanding of OSHA CFR—1926 Subpart P, standard, and its role in Trench Rescue. 

Students at this level can work in all trenches—nonintersecting, intersecting, deep wall trenches greater than 8ft and recognize hazards associated with them.

Confined Space

Prerequisites: Rope Rescue Ops

This course is the basis for conducting safe and systematic rescues in confined space situations. It addresses the job performance requirements and the requisite knowledge and skills.
This course covers several technical aspects involved in confined space rescue; with the use of traditional classroom and practical exercises. The subjects covered include: Rescuer roles and responsibilities, hazard identification, proper rescue techniques, atmospheric monitoring and testing, ventilation, and characteristics of non-permit and permit—required confined spaces.

This course is designed to meet or exceed the applicable sections of NFPA 1670 (2014), Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents.

This 16-hour course is the basis for conducting safe and systematic rescues in confined space situations. It addresses the job performance requirements and the requisite knowledge and skills.

VMR

Vehicle & Machinery Rescue OperationsIMG_1237.png

Prerequisite: Firefighter I&II

This 40-hour course is the basis for conducting safe and systematic operations at technical rescue incidents safely and effectively based on hazard analysis, risk assessment, training level of personnel, and availability of internal and external resources.

At a successful completion of the Operations Level, the candidate will have an understanding of the functions and developments of NFPA 1670 8.3 and NFPA 1006, Standards for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications.

These standards will provide the candidate with the ability to conduct hazard analysis, risk assessment and perform the operational level functions of vehicle machinery rescue.

This course is designed to meet or exceed the applicable sections of NFPA 1670 (2014), Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents.

Prerequisite: VMR Ops

Vehicle and Machinery Rescue (VMR): Technician is a course designed to give the student real world heavy rescue scenarios. The course strictly adheres to NFPA 1670 and 1006 and continues on from the Academy’s VMR: Operations course. 
Students work with heavy lift bags, high and low pressure bags, plasma torches, oxy-acetylene torches, and exothermic torches. They learn how to estimate the weight of a vehicle as well as the features of different materials used in the construction of vehicles and machinery.
