General Questions

Am I guaranteed a job after graduation?

It is your responsibility to investigate the job market. South Florida is very competitive. You increase your chances of finding a position if you are a certified EMT, Paramedic and Firefighter.

Can I get college credits for these courses and are they transferable?

We do not assign credits to our courses. We do offer transcripts for our accredited courses for a fee. Other schools may assign credits to our courses, but you must check with that school.

I have a green card, can I apply?

Yes.

What if I have been homeschooled?

For individuals who have completed a homeschool program, we require documentation that the education program has met the requirements of Section 1002.41. F.S., of the Department of Education from the state where the home school program was completed.

What if I do not have a Social Security Card. Can I still apply?

Your SSN will be required in order to complete the Level 2 background check


EMT-Basic

Is the CSRIPS BLS Healthcare Provider Course mandatory?

Yes, all students must complete the CSRIPS BLS Healthcare Provider course.

How old do I have to be to apply for the EMT-Basic Program?

You may apply for the EMT-Basic program at 17 years old. You will need your high school diploma and be 18 years of age in order to test for the national exam.

What if I have a DUI from years ago?

Any conviction, including a DUI, can prevent you from becoming employed. Please contact the office at 954-346-1774 for more information.

Is the COVID vaccine required for the EMT-Basic Program?

As of the end of July, 2023, we were notified that Broward Health no longer requires the COVID vaccine as part of their clinical program.


Firefighter I&II

Do I need to be EMT-Basic licensed?

All Firefighter I & II students must have at a minimum completed the EMT-Basic program. Additional admissions points will be granted for licensed EMT-Basic graduates.

Can I use the CPAT instead of the EPAT

No, we do not accept CPAT completion in place of our Entrance Physical Ability Test (EPAT).

Is there a minimum age for the firefighter I&II program?

You must be at least 18 years old to apply for the Firefighter I&II program.

Does CSRIPS supply my bunker gear for firefighter I&II?

We do not provide bunker gear or SCBA masks for our Firefighter I&II. We do provide non-affiliated resources within the student’s class materials, after they have been accepted into the Program, however students are not required to specifically utilize those companies.

I had a physical recently, can I submit this with my application?

You must use the forms that are part of our application. Medicals for Firefighter I & II are only valid for a six month period. This application must be completed by a physician, surgeon, or physician’s assistant per ch. 459; or an advanced registered nurse practitioner per ch. 464. Information is on the application.

I am licensed in another state, do I need to go to school here again?

You may contact the Bureau of Fire Standards at 352-369-2800 and discuss this with them. However, most people do need to re-certify in Florida.

What if I have a DUI from years ago?

You would need to contact The Bureau of Fire Standards for an answer to this question. 352-369-2800. Your ability to be employed may be limited.

Do I need to be a high school graduate?

You must have at least a high school diploma or GED. A diploma from college is also acceptable. For those entering the Firefighter I&II program, diplomas from schools in other countries are not accepted unless approved by the Bureau of Fire Standards. Contact their office at 352-369-2800.


EMT-Paramedic

Does "EMT-Paramedic" mean that it included EMT-Basic & Paramedic?

No, EMT-Paramedic is not a combination class that includes EMT-Basic. EMT stands for Emergency Medical Technician, "basic" and "Paramedic" signify the level of training under the EMT umbrella.

Is the CSRIPS BLS healthcare provider course mandatory?

You are required to complete the CSRIPS BLS Healthcare Provider course. The only exemption is if you are currently employed by a fire department or hospital and they are the Training Center or Site listed on your card. Please contact the office to review your credentials with your Academic Program Advisor.
